The petition can be directly at the addresses http://globalinvestigativejournalism.org or http://globalinvestigativejournalism.org/content/journalists-join-to-support-wikileaks via email: WikileaksStatement@gmail.com retrieved and drawn on be.
The petition and the statement of the international petition signed by journalists from 40 countries, says the following:
DECLARATION OF JOURNALISTS TO THE ATTACKS ON WikiLeaks
Julian Assange, founder of the Whistle Blower organization Wikileaks, was harshly criticized and attacked for his part in gaps of military documents to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq (also known as "The Diaries of War"). He was accused of publishing confidential military information irresponsibly, endangering the lives of people in the Miltiär published reports and also of espionage accused. Some media organizations have joined this criticism.
We, journalists and journalists' organizations from many countries, hereby express our support for Julian Assange and Wikileaks. We believe Julian Assange has made an outstanding contribution to transparency and responsibility for the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Issues such as transparency and responsibilities were very much constrained by the secrecy of the government and the control of the media. He was attacked withheld for publication of information that had not at any time the public may be.
We believe Wikileaks had the right publishing confidential military documents, because this has been done in the interest of the public to find out what happened. The documents show the evidence that the government of the United States of America misled the public on activities in Iraq and Afghanistan and that perhaps war crimes were committed.
Wikileaks has made the lives of people in danger? There was a legitimate criticism of Wikileaks to documents on Afghanistan in terms of their security clearance, which did not inform sufficiently about the names of possible informants in the publications. Fortunately, there is no evidence as to that a person as a result of that was injured or killed. We note that Wikileaks has learned from those mistakes and a lot of careful work in the publication of documents on Iraq.
In the totality of the evidence-based reports of Wikileaks through a variety of abuses and crimes of far greater importance as a critique of an inadequate editing.
Julian Assange was personally under pressure because of his involvement in relation to the gaps in the Miltiär reports and looked attacks of accusations of espionage exposed. Mr. Assanage is not guilty of a suspicion of espionage than any other journalist or Whistle Blower. The accusation is a terrible Vorveruteilung, which is opposed to an open government.
If the publication of documents of Whistle Blowers would be equated with espionage, then this means that potentially all journalists of such a crime could be guilty. Julian Assange deserved in the face of attacks, our support and encouragement.
Since the deployment in 2006, Wikileaks is for journalists from around the world, an extraordinary means for further transparency, while it is reduced from governments. Although Wikileaks is not a part of the media and not pretending to be a part of the media, not his mission of informing the public and reducing unjustified secrecy interests, supports our work. As a grateful beneficiary of the work of Wikileaks and Julian Assange, we stand together to support this at this time.
The petition was published on the site of http://globalinvestigativejournalism.org so Simultaneous other journalists and support the declaration.
